Vanguard is a sports line from the Swiss brand Franck Muller that brings the signature tonneau into a modern style. It is based on the curved Cintrée Curvex case, but without classic lugs: the strap enters the case directly and continues its line. The curved caseback holds the watch against the wrist, so even a large tonneau sits snugly.
The Vanguard dial carries large applied Arabic numerals, cut by hand and then polished or satin-finished. Versions differ in colour and finish. The Vanguard Racing has a black dial with a turquoise or purple accent on the inner scale and a perforated strap. The Vanguard Blue Sea has a steel case with blue PVD coating and an engraving of sea waves that continues onto the dial. The Camo version has a blue dial with a camouflage pattern, while on the Black Red and Black Gold the numerals on the black dial are outlined in red and rose gold. The Vanguard Crazy Hours Hom Nguyen has a rose gold case and multicoloured graphic numerals that look like sketches.
The main choices are case material and function. Cases come in stainless steel, titanium — including black PVD/DLC-coated — and rose gold; all have sapphire crystal. Most versions are automatic with date, while the Vanguard Yachting Crazy Hours has a jumping hour. The nautical sub-series also has its own page, Vanguard Yachting.
