Requiem is a skull-shaped table clock from the Creative Art collection of the Swiss manufacture L'Epée 1839. It was designed by Kostas Metaxas, and its theme is the classic memento mori.
The skull is machined from cast aluminium, the movement is hidden at its centre, and the time is shown by discs in the eye sockets.
A related piece is the Fiona Krüger Vanitas, an L'Epée 1839 skull table clock by another designer: black PVD-coated, hand-wound, with a 35-day power reserve.
Within the line, the choice is first of all about the version and its place in the interior. The Requiem is placed on a desk or shelf as a sculpture to be looked at up close, rather than as an instrument for reading the time from across the room.
