Patek Philippe Gondolo

ABOUT COLLECTION

Gondolo is Patek Philippe's collection of shaped watches: here the Swiss manufacture brings together rectangular and tonneau cases instead of the familiar round. The line is named after Gondolo & Labouriau, the Brazilian distributor in Rio de Janeiro with which Patek Philippe worked from 1872 to 1927. The modern collection has been produced since 1993 and continues the Art Deco aesthetic: stepped case sides, shaped lugs and a caseback curved to follow the wrist.

The collection comprises men's shaped models, the Gondolo Calendario and ladies' watches. The classic Gondolo is a men's hand-wound watch with small seconds; this branch also includes the 10-day Manual with a ten-day power reserve. The Gondolo Calendario is an automatic tonneau with an annual calendar. The ladies' branch consists of rectangular models with diamonds and an in-house quartz calibre. It is easiest to choose by movement and case shape first, then by metal. Case sizes range from 16.3 to 38 mm. A rectangle wears differently from a round watch of the same size, so it is worth trying one on.
