The Monaco is a TAG Heuer chronograph with a racing pedigree. It was introduced in 1969 with Calibre 11, a self-winding movement. Steve McQueen made it famous by wearing a Monaco in the 1971 film Le Mans.
The line is recognised by its domed sapphire crystal with a bevelled edge and its horizontal hour markers. Chronograph sub-dials are square or round, depending on the version. The current generation consists of self-winding mechanical chronographs with the in-house Heuer 02 and TH20 calibres, featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch and a power reserve of up to 80 hours. Case materials include polished and satin-finished steel, lightweight titanium and carbon composites. Standing apart is the concept Monaco V4 with its belt-driven movement, shown in 2004.
The choice begins with the movement: a classic chronograph or the Monaco V4. Then come the case material, the position of the crown and the choice between strap and bracelet. For comparison, see the brand's Carrera collection.
The collection includes the Monaco V4 Limited Edition, a limited series in titanium on a black leather strap. Each listing gives the condition, what is included, the reference, calibre, case size and power reserve.
