Ulysse Nardin Marine

ABOUT COLLECTION

Marine is a line from Ulysse Nardin, the Swiss brand founded in 1846 in Le Locle. From the 19th century the manufacture supplied marine chronometers to the navies of more than 50 countries. In 1996, for the brand's 150th anniversary, their look was transferred to a wristwatch, the Marine Chronometer 1846. Sports and diving models, a tourbillon and an annual calendar later joined the collection.

Marine watches are recognised by a dial in the spirit of deck chronometers: a power reserve indicator near 12 o'clock, small seconds near 6 o'clock — often combined with a date window — and large Roman or Arabic numerals. The case has a fluted bezel and guards protecting the crown, and the rubber straps are attached with titanium or rose gold inserts engraved or bearing the brand's logo.

Within the collection, the first choice is between a chronograph and a watch with power reserve indicator, and, in terms of style, between diving, sports and classic models. Chronographs range from the steel Marine Chronograph on a leather strap to the Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph and the limited Blue Seal with its blue wave-pattern dial. The chronometer layout is retained by the classic Marine Chronometer Anniversary 160 Platinum, made for the brand's 160th anniversary, and, in diving form, by the Maxi Marine Diver and the Black Surf Limited Edition. Case materials include stainless steel, white and rose gold, titanium and two-tone combinations; on the Black Sea Diver Chronograph the steel case is coated in vulcanised rubber, matt and highly resistant to external wear. The diving versions also have their own pages: Marine Diver and Maxi Marine Diver.

Each listing gives the reference, style, calibre, case material and size, water resistance, condition and what is included.
