The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 36 mm Steel & Gold Automatic (ref. 14790SA.OO.0789SA.01) is a jewellery watch with a 34 mm octagonal case in white gold. It has a blue dial under sapphire crystal.
It is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement. Functions: Date. Water-resistant to 50 m. The watch is fitted with a Royal Oak bracelet with a folding clasp in white gold.
This example is in excellent condition, and comes with the original papers.
Caliber 5800 was developed with the Vaucher manufacture specifically for the proportions of a 34 mm case. It has a 22-carat pink gold rotor and a balance bridge fixed at two points.

Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, in the Vallée de Joux, by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, and is still owned by the founding families. The house built its reputation on complicated watches and, in 1972, launched the Royal Oak, designed by Gérald Genta: a steel sports watch with an octagonal bezel held by eight visible screws, a "Tapisserie" dial and an integrated bracelet.
The Royal Oak family dominates the range: the classic Royal Oak in steel, gold, titanium and ceramic, the slim "Jumbo" Extra-Thin, openworked and skeleton versions, perpetual calendars and tourbillon chronographs. The larger, sportier Royal Oak Offshore followed in 1993, alongside the Royal Oak Concept and the round Code 11.59 collection introduced in 2019.
