Rolex GMT-Master

ABOUT COLLECTION

The Rolex GMT-Master is a line of watches for travellers. An additional hand makes one rotation every 24 hours and, together with the rotating bezel, shows the time in two time zones — and, by turning the bezel, in three at once. Rolex launched the first GMT-Master in 1955 for international airline pilots, and its practicality and recognisable design have made it a natural choice for frequent flyers.

The watches offered here are GMT-Master II models, and they share the same construction: an Oyster case, a sapphire crystal with a Cyclops lens over the date, a bidirectional bezel with a 24-hour scale and Chromalight markers. Almost all have a two-colour Cerachrom ceramic bezel insert and a black dial; only the gem-set version looks different.

Two generations appear, both self-winding. References 116710BLNR and 116758SA use calibre 3186 with a Parachrom hairspring and a 48-hour power reserve; the 116710BLNR was the brand's first watch with a two-colour Cerachrom bezel made from a single piece of ceramic. References beginning 1267 use the in-house calibre 3285 with the Chronergy escapement, a power reserve of about 70 hours and accuracy of −2/+2 seconds a day.

Within the line, the bezel colour is usually the deciding factor. The steel versions are:

  • GMT-Master II "Batman" — blue and black bezel;
  • GMT-Master II "Pepsi" — blue and red;
  • GMT-Master II "Bruce Wayne" — grey and black, with a green GMT hand;
  • GMT-Master II "Sprite" — green and black. The crown is on the left and the date at 9 o'clock: this version is made for wearing on the right wrist and is also listed as Left Handed.

Brown and black ceramic features on the GMT-Master "Root Beer" Two Tone in steel and Everose gold. Grey and black appears on the two-tone GMT-Master II Steel & Yellow Gold Full Stickers and on the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II in yellow gold. The gem-set version is the GMT-Master II Sapphires Diamonds in yellow gold, with a bezel set with blue sapphires and baguette-cut diamonds and a pavé dial.

Years of production range from 2006 to 2026. Each model has its own listing with the reference, calibre, power reserve, what is included and a description of its condition.
