Richard Mille RM 002

ABOUT COLLECTION

The Richard Mille RM 002 series holds a fundamental place in the history of contemporary haute horlogerie. As the direct successor to the brand's first watch, it set the course the brand would follow: combining complex classical mechanics with aerospace technology. The RM 002 was the first in the industry to feature a crown function selector (W-N-H), working like a car's gearbox, along with a mainspring torque indicator.

The tonneau case architecture of the RM 002 became the brand's signature. Its complex curved geometry demands great precision in machining while giving an excellent anatomical fit on the wrist. The dial reveals the three-dimensional depth of the movement: baseplates in technical alloys, bridges with complex finishing and an open tourbillon carriage create a striking industrial volume.

The evolution of materials within the RM 002 line reflects the manufacture's technological progress. From the initial use of Grade 5 titanium and ARCAP alloy to experimental carbon composites, the series deliberately set aside traditional notions of luxury in favour of functionality and shock resistance. The RM 002 remains one of the most recognisable and fundamental collector's pieces in conceptual high horology.
